Chico Performance Racing® is an award-winning engine shop whose reliable and quality built engines have received critical acclaim throughout the VW scene. The CPR® customer list includes many types of car owners including street, drag, off-road, and stock. Custom long blocks and turnkey engines are built to order using top of the line parts and the best components available today. All parts are either new, or they have been completely and precisely overhauled. 1776cc and larger turnkey engines are dyno-tuned and tested for maximum performance in our very own dyno room. I purchased a turnkey 1776 engine for my 74 std beetle daily driver from Chico. Chico built and dynoed the engine (87hp @ 122 ft/bs torque). It arrived in good order with no damage. The engine sat on the pallet for several weeks while I finished some other things on the car. We finally got everything back together and after a few preliminary checks, the engine fired as if had ran the day before.
The engine now has about 1200 miles on it. It continues to get stronger, with a very wide power band. Without a doubt, one of the smoothest VW engines I have ever driven. The engine starts easily, is very drivable, has not overheated, and been virtually trouble-free.
All in all, Anibal Chico has been one of the best folks I have ever dealt with. Even though he builds high-dollar big horsepower engines, he took the time to help me decide exactly what I wanted and needed for my daily driver. He built my engine with quality parts and labor, and continues to support his customers well after the delivery. He has my respect, admiration, and recommendation.

My dealings with Chico have been great. He stands behind his work and is very personable and professional. He put up with my dumb-ass, weekend mechanic questions.
